I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4.
God has told us of a time when the earth would be made empty and waste, it would be turned upside down, and the inhabitants would be scattered abroad. (Isa. 24:1) The Lord said The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled . . . (ver. 3) He further states, "the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and FEW MEN LEFT." (ver. 6) This will be a time when the mirth of the tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoiceth endeth and strong drink will be bitter to them that drink it. All joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. It will be said, The treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously . . . . (ver. 8-16) And it shall come to pass, that he that fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fail into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake. The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and it shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again (ver. 13-20) (Read Eze.Chapters 38 & 39).
The paragraph above is enough to bring tears to the eyes of any person believing the word of God. How much plainer could a Nuclear War be told? Think soberly of the verse above that says that "few men (mankind) will be left" . . . . This should give us an urge to fight on and stay faithful to Him in service and duty no matter how dark the day nor discouraging the battle may seem! This picture should make us all cry out with prophet of old, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night? (Isa. 21:11-12) When this day of wrath and destruction comes it will certainly be too late then to do the things that can be done every day now. This brings our mind to the words of Jesus in the text . . . . the night cometh, when no man can work.(Read Mat. 24 - Mark 13 - Luke 21)
Many of the parents reading this message today have children out of Christ. If death should come, it would find them unprepared and lost in a world without end! With this fact in mind there are very few making an effort to change the circumstances. Too many are like Eli of old; His sons were vile, and he restrained them not . . . (1st. Sam. 3:11-13) God brought destruction on these wicked sons because of their evil and Eli also died because of his failure to limit or restrict the evil of his sons. May God help us today to hear the words of the Master while he was on the cross, "Weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. (Luke 23:28). Souls are lost and going to hell and it seems that very few are concerned or even care. It is late my friends, God help us to arise from our sleep!
It has been said that the "streets of hell are paved with good intentions." How many reading this passage today have assured themselves in the past that they would read, pray, fast, love and be more faithful in church and other Christian duties then ever before??? This promise was made to be broken and cast aside! Yet, you wonder why your children aren't coming to God? Why are services cold? Why don't I feel victory like I did at one time? Why does hatred, jealousy, evil doings and evil thinking vex me as they do? All this can be answered possibly in the hours you watch Television, listen to Radio, gossip on the Telephone and countless of other worthless things that rob you of secret prayer and the study of God's word! Paul warns the Christian that the night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore, cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. (Rom. 13:12) (Read Rev. 13 - Dan. Chapter 7-8).
The word of God strictly requires a life of sacrifice, holy and acceptable before God. He demands a life that is "transformed" by the power of God and not conformed (similar) to this world. (Rom. 12:1-2) A Christian cannot pattern after Hollywood and indulge in the evil affairs of this life and at the same time retain a burden for the church and the holy things of God! We are told in no uncertain terms that the friendship of the world is enmity with God" . . . (Jas. 4:4) If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1st. John 2:15) A life wrapped in the affairs of this life cannot and is not used of God! A double life will dampen the spirit and kill any spiritual ambition that one might seem to have. Paul spoke to the sleeping Christians in this manner: Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. (Eph. 5:14)
Paul calls upon the Christians who are of the day, "be sober" . . . (1st Thes. 5:8) In the verses above he spoke of those who were asleep and he said they were drunken. This has no reference whatever to natural intoxication as you see among the ungodly. These verses deal with those who are drunken on the cares of this life. . . Thousands of good people are in as drunken stupor (spiritually); their minds are dull of hearing, their zeal is ebbing low, their testimony has lost it's power and victory. Church attendance doesn't mean the same anymore. . .What is the matter? Pleasures of life, cares of life, have risen to choke out the desire. Natural things have replaced the moments of "sweet communion with Jesus." The time that was used to read and study the word of God is now being used for some worldly or earthly exercise that is the opposite from sitting at His feet in humble submission! May God help those who are drunken on the cares of life to "sober up" lest He find us sleeping. (Mat. 25:1-10)
In what was without doubt the darkest hours of the Master's life, His disciples failed to watch, they fell asleep. (Mat. 26:37-45) The sins of the world were heavy upon Him and as a man He fell on His face and prayed. He requested that His disciples watch . . . instead they slept! Today the burden is heavy, the enemy is raging and so much is at stake . . . Are you watching? Are you on duty? He has delivered unto us his goods (Mat. 25:14) are we being faithful? Have we in a careless manner hidden the Lord's money? Bear in mind He is coming again to reckon with His servants!
If there be a Christian reading this message today, who feels that drowsy and spiritual sleep affecting your activity for God let me urge you to rise up while you have time and shake loose from this attaching evil. The very safety of your children and others close to you may be depending on your faithfulness to Jesus! Call on Jesus for deliverance and strength, He is able to give power (Acts 1: 8) for service in His Name. Resist the devil and he will flee from you . . . Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you. Remember, Jesus is coming to reward us according to our works: Don't you want a great reward? (Rev. 22:12)
