The Voice in the Wilderness

"The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert an highway for our God." (Isa. 40:3) These words were uttered by this great prophet of God some 700 years before God was manifest in the flesh to lay His life down for the world. We will easily recognize the one to whom the text refers as John that came in the wilderness preaching, "Repent for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand." The mission of this strange preacher that was clothed. with camel's hair and ate locusts and wild honey for meat was to prepare the way for the LORD. The text calls him both Lord and God, so does Thomas when on doubting His resurrection afterward saw Him as He was and said, "My Lord and my God". (John 20:28) Many times during the ministry of John, he was mistaken by those who heard him to be the Christ or one of the prophets; but we find him saying, I are not Elias (John 1:21). I am not that Light (JESUS) but was sent to bear witness of that Light (John 6:6-9). Then this writer continues in his message in telling us that, He (Jesus), was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not (John 1:10). Little did the world know at the birth of the little stranger in Bethlehem where there was no room in the inn, that He was Christ the LORD (Luke 2:10-11) God did visit the world in the form of man called SON, but the world knew Him not. He ate, drank, slept as man; on the other hand He healed the sick, fed the multitudes, walked the waves of the sea and forgave sins because He was God. Who is this man? Was the cry of those who met Him? Never did man speak as this man has spoken. He was God among men, and they knew him not, It was God who came to the world (Mat. 1:23). It was God who laid down His life on the cross (1st John 3:16). It was God that was received up into glory(1st Tim. 3:16). It was God who went to prepare us a place (Heb. 11:16), and it is God that is coming again (Titus 2:13). His name is JESUS, the only name given among men whereby we must be saved. This same prophet that called Jesus our God in the text, writes in the earlier part of this great book telling us of the child to be born and declares Him to be "The mighty God, The everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6). He is the first writer to give the name "Emmanuel" which means "God with us" (Isa. 7:14-Mat.1:23). He also describes the day that the Jews will recognize Jesus by saying, "Lo this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation." (Isa. 25:9). Thank God for this prophet and the voice of him that crieth in the wilderness saying, "Make straight in the desert a highway for our God". He is Jesus, bless His Name!
