"Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing
of the church unto God for him." Acts 12:5. Here we find the people of
God met at the house of Mary, and decided to pray for Peter's deliverance.
That night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with chains.
Outside the prison door, there were soldiers that stood watch to be sure
that no prisoner escaped. While Peter slept, an angel came and awakened
him and said, "Arise up quickly." The Bible says his chains fell off from
his hands. The angel instructed Peter to gird himself and follow him. Peter
did as he was told, following the angel right past the soldiers without
ever being noticed. Peter didn't even realize what was really happening
to him; he thought he was seeing a vision. When they were past the first
and second ward and the iron gate that led to the city opened, the angel
departed from him. When Peter came to himself, he knew that the Lord had
sent the angel to deliver him. He then went to Mary's house and found them
all praying. Of course we realize that this was deliverance in the natural;
Peter was in a natural prison. But in the same exact way, God can deliver
us from the spiritual bonds that we find ourselves in today. We are told
in Psa. 34:19, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord
delivereth him out of them all." So whether we would be in natural bonds
as Peter in the long ago, or spiritual bonds as we often see today, God
is able to deliver us out of them all. No matter what you are facing today,
look to God and depend on His promises. Romans 4:20, 21 says, "He (speaking
of Abraham) staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was
strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what
he had promised, he was able also to perform." Let's put our trust in Him
for all things; He will never fail us. "There hath no temptation taken
you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer
you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation
also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." Keep this scripture
in mind no matter what comes your way and hold fast to God for your deliverance.
He never fails His people.
