JESUS, THE ONE AND ONLY SAVING NAME
Wherefore
God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every
name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; Phil. 2:9-10
We are grateful for this opportunity to present the glorious truth that JESUS is
the Name of our Heavenly Father. If another verse should not be given to
support this claim, the verse in the text above should open the eyes of every
reader to this fact. The Son received His Name by "inheritance"
(Heb. 1:4) and has a Name more excellent than the angels. The fact that
the Son received His Name by inheritance as said by the writer of the Hebrew
letter will help you to clearly see what He meant when He said: I am come
in my Father's name, and ye received me not . . . (John 5:43). The Son was
given the Name JESUS by the angel of God (Mat. 1:21) So this is plain to
understand as to how Jesus came with the NAME of the great and only God of
heaven.
The creator of heaven and earth has been called by many beautiful titles and
names through the old Testament scriptures. He spoke to Abraham and said:
I am the Almighty God . . . (Gen. 17:1) Many years later He told Moses
that His Name was "I AM" (Exo. 3:14). Then later He told
Moses that "my name is Jehovah" . . . (Exo. 6:3). These are only
a few of His names and titles by which He was called before and during the time
of the old law. To me, all of these are wonderful and sweet, but, none of
these are saving names in this day of grace! He is still Lord, Jehovah,
the great I Am etc. . . but His NAME in this day is JESUS! We speak of the
Lord Jesus Christ that rose from the dead. He is known as the "first
and last" (Rev. 1:18) the Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince
of Peace. (Isa. 9:6). Truly He is King Emmanuel which means God with
us. (Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:23).
Many years before God came to earth in the flesh as Son. He spoke through
the mouth of Zechariah and told of a time that the "Lord shall be King over
all the earth: in that day shall there be ONE Lord, and his NAME
ONE." (Zec. 14:9) Of course there never has been but ONE true
Lord and He is the true God. (Jer. 10:10) He is the living God and
everlasting King. This prophet spake of a time by inspiration that
"all would know Him, from the least to the greatest." (Heb.
8:11) By knowing Him, we will know that there is one (not two or three)
Lord and notice this, "His NAME one! We are in that age now that God
only has one name that has power to save and heal! You need not look
deeper into the future, the time is here, God has visited man (Luke 7:16); He
has come to take out of them a people for His name. (Acts 15:14) The
apostle Peter makes it crystal clear when he said. Neither is there
salvation in any other: for there is none other NAME under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) Don't overlook this
verse! Read it again and pray earnestly! Don't you know that God's
Name has saving power? Don't you see that if "Jesus" isn't God's
Name then His Name has no saving power? The verse above says that
"there is salvation in no other!" If Jesus isn't the Father's
Name, then the Father's Name has no more power to save than yours or mine.
The name Jesus is above every name that is named, not only in this world, but
also in that which is to come. (Eph. 1:21) The enemy likes for
people to accept the name of Jesus if he can get them to think that somewhere or
sometime that there will be another name with more power and sweeter to the ear.
My friend, this will never be! The name of Jesus isn't just the greatest
name on earth, but also in the highest heavens! The reason is simple, His
Name (Jesus) is the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. (Matthew 28:19)
The reason why I know that Jesus is the NAME of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost
is because the apostles used His name (not titles) when they baptized believers.
Peter commanded the Jews to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38).
The people of Samaria were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Acts
8:16). The Gentiles received the Holy Ghost, spoke in tongues, and were baptized
in the name of Jesus Christ. (Acts 10:44-48) The believers at
Ephesus heard the preaching of Paul and were baptized in the name of the Lord
Jesus. (Acts 19:5)
