God in a Manger
'She brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.' (Luke 2:7) I feel inspired like the song writer long ago, when he wrote these words: Tell me the story of Jesus' write on my heart every word.' The message of His holy birth is so fresh to me every year about this season. How God came into the world in the form of a little babe, to bring such joy and peace of salvation to us on earth. We were lost without any revelation of God; but He revealed to us the way of life through the person of His Son. The air was filled with the glory of His birth and the earth was moved at His coming. It stirred the hearts of the wise concerning what was happening. Surely this was peace on earth and good will to all men. Please do not miss this great joy unspeakable by not seeing God in Christ. We do not teach December 25th as the day Jesus was born, but we do teach that we need to observe one day in remembrance of this great Truth and Jesus being born of flesh that we should be born of the Spirit. This day is set apart. Why not keep it? It is not the day we honor but Jesus, who was God in the flesh. 'And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.' (John 1:14) I am happy to know for myself, that God was in his Son when they laid Him in this lowly manger and was in His Son every step of the way to the cross where He laid down His life for us. (1st John 3:16) He raised His Son up the third day, by the same Spirit and declared: 'Behold. I am alive for evermore and have the keys of death and hell.' Oh! Wonderful Victory. Paul explains the whole truth of the matter by stating: the fulness of the Godhead dwells in the body of Christ (Col. 2:9). And ye are complete in Him. If we are complete in Him why look for another? The adversary has tried to connect Santa Claus and Christmas trees with the holy birth of Jesus, but this is a heathen custom and God condemns it. Read Jeremiah 10th chapter.
