"The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain
king which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to
reckon, one was brought unto him which owed him ten thousand talents."
(Matthew 18:23,24). Here was a servant that was being brought before his
lord for consideration because of his debts. Because he had been unable
to pay them, it was commanded that he, his wife, his children and all that
he had be sold and payment be made. This servant immediately began to plead,
"Lord, have patience with me and I will pay thee all." Then the lord of
that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed and forgave him the
debt. This is one of the greatest lessons on forgiveness. If your brother
or sister has failed, if they have offended or hurt you, then say, forgive
me. It is your duty to forgive completely. Loose your brother and sister
and let them go. Your thoughts toward them, or a little bitter feeling,
may cause them to be bound. You may say, "I'll love enough to get to heaven."
Do you know how much is enough? Just as you forgive is the way you will
be forgiven. When you stand to give your testimony, would you like for
the Lord to bring all of your failures before Him, even though you had
repented of them? No, indeed, you would not. You want Him to cast them
in the sea of forgetfulness just as He has promised. Why do you let thoughts
arise in your heart? To satisfy your own feelings? Do you think you are
justified in saying, "I wonder so and so about a matter concerning the
brethren?" It is high time that saints quit finding fault with saints.
How can you say you love Jesus whom you have not seen if you don't love
your brother whom you have seen? God is not pleased with a lot of talking--and
it must stop. The world does not love us but we should love one another.
Be tender hearted, forgiving one another. If you are tempted to find fault,
bow on your knees and begin to pray for the one you want to talk about
and ask Jesus to help you as a Christian to have the love that is required
by God. The same servant that was forgiven found one of his fellow servants
which owed him an hundred piece: "And he laid hands on him, and took him
by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest." (Matthew 18:28). The fellow
servant fell down and besought him, saying, "Have patience with me, and
I will pay thee all, and he would not." Here was a man that had been forgiven
a large debt but would not forgive a smaller debt of his fellow servant.
If we are not careful, we will find the human being guilty of this. You
will desire a complete forgiveness but still toward the other person you
will want to feel a little ill will. But if you do you will have to answer
to God just as this servant had to answer to his lord and he received punishment.
Peter asked Jesus, "How oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive
him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until
seven times, but until seventy times seven." This is four hundred and ninety
times. I would like to leave this thought also: God expects us to pay our
just and honest debts. If you can't pay but a little each week to show
you are trying, be sure you do this. They were offended in him. But Jesus
said unto them, "A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country,
and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of
their unbelief." (Matthew 13:57,58). Here the God of heaven was hindered
by unbelief in the minds of the people, especially those that knew Him
well. If Jesus was hindered, don't you believe that unbelief and thoughts
that arise in the minds of those around us could easily be a hinderance?
Here in the midst of these people the Lord only laid His hands upon a few
sick folk and healed them. Think of the power that He had and the great
and mighty works that He could have done for them, God help us all never
to hinder the work that needs to go on continually. Help us not to bind
the saints with thoughts but let us have the love of Jesus flowing for
His people. Let us always have His cause at heart first, and let the wheels
of Zion roll on and never be the one to hinder His mighty works.
